Setting up a CNAME record for each of the domains or subdomains that you have within a hosting account will allow you to direct it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded domain will lose all of its records - A, MX and so on, and will take the records of the domain address it's being forwarded to. In this light, you simply can't create a CNAME record to redirect your domain name to a third-party company and keep a working email service with the first hosting company. It is also very important to know that a CNAME record is always a string of words and not a number as it's often wrongly identified as the A record of the domain being forwarded. One of the primary uses of a CNAME record is to point a domain name which you own through one company to the servers of some other provider when you have created a website with the latter. By doing this, the site will appear under your own domain name, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party provider.

CNAME Records in Shared Website Hosting

If you have a shared website hosting plan through our company and you wish to set up a CNAME record, it will take you a few mouse clicks to get it done. You can access the DNS records for all domain addresses and subdomains hosted in your account through the Hepsia CP offered with each plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, choosing the type, that will be CNAME in this case, inputting the actual record value and saving the change. If you have never added such a record before, you will discover a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can just contact us and we will help you with this task. If you have created an Internet site through another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different company, like Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a few mouse clicks within your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with every one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, allows you to create a CNAME record easily. When you want to create a private URL for your e-mails, to forward a domain name to a subdomain within the account or to forward a domain address to another company and use some third-party service that they provide, it won't require more than three mouse clicks to set up this kind of record. All DNS records for the domain names and subdomains hosted inside the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the Control Panel, so when you're there, all you will have to do will be to pick the type of the record that you want to set up and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then enter the actual record text. For your convenience, you can see a short video inside the Control Panel about how to create a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, that is available in the DNS records section.
